WHAT DOES "LENT" MEAN?
The word “Lent” means spring and it observes the period of time in which we pass from winter into spring. It presents an opportunity to properly prepare our hearts for the events of Holy Week that culminates in the grand celebration of Easter Morning. The focus of Lent is the Passion of Jesus Christ and how that Cross implicates us in a life of discipleship, repentance and sacrificial service.
WHAT IS "LENTEN" SEASON?
Lent is a season of spiritual preparation leading up to Easter (Resurrection Sunday). It mirrors Jesus’ time in the wilderness and invites believers to refocus their hearts through:
Lent isn’t about perfection—it’s about surrender.
- Prayer – deepening our conversation with God
- Fasting – making space for spiritual clarity and dependence on Him
- Repentance – turning back to God with humility and sincerity
- Giving – serving others with compassion and generosity

WILL CALVARY TELL ME HOW TO OBSERVE LENT?
The church does not prescribe details on how to fulfill this Lenten commitment. The Holy Spirt will direct each person.
Why We Observe Lent
HOW DO I START?
We observe Lent to remember the sacrifice of Jesus, examine our hearts, and grow in spiritual maturity. This season helps us:

During Lent we engage in three personal commitments:

Make a sacrifice that expresses a devotional love for Christ.

Ingest biblical devotional material that will contribute to a fellowship with Christ.
▪ Take Something On
Decide to bear someone else’s burden by engaging in a ministry of love.
