The word “Lent” means spring and it observes the period of time in which we pass from winter into spring. It presents an opportunity to properly prepare our hearts for the events of Holy Week that culminates in the grand celebration of Easter Morning. The focus of Lent is the Passion of Jesus Christ and how that Cross implicates us in a life of discipleship, repentance and sacrificial service.
 

The Lenten season consists of 40 days and it resembles the 40 days Jesus spent in the wilderness just prior to the commencement of His public ministry. For Jesus, that was a season of fasting, prayers, spiritual warfare and intimate communion with God.
 

The church does not prescribe details on how to fulfill this Lenten commitment. The Holy Spirt will direct each person.
 

During Lent we engage in three personal commitments:

▪ Give Something Up
Make a sacrifice that expresses a devotional love for Christ.

▪ Put Something In
Ingest biblical devotional material that will contribute to a fellowship with Christ.

▪ Take Something On
Decide to bear someone else’s burden by engaging in a ministry of love.
